How did you get into running/training?
I originally took up running in 2009 to lose weight and build up my fitness, after 4 years of running the same 3 miles three miles a week I stopped, then in the summer of 2019, Alice had started running again and with a little bit of persuading I got my running shoes out again and got the bug back very quickly.
Is there anything that you are training for as we approach the autumn season?
As we head into autumn my focus is on a busy schedule in October which will see us complete the Congleton Half, Liverpool Rock n Roll Half and then to cap the month off with RunThrough’s Chester Zoo 10k, I’m very excited.
Best sporting moment/achievement in your running lifetime?
It’s tough one. I have to say completing my first half marathon was my biggest achievement, this was 12 months ago completing Run Tatton Half virtually due to the lockdown.
Who is your running idol or biggest motivator?
It’ll have to be Eliud Kipchoge, his record speaks for itself. I’ve always been amazed how consistent he’s been and delivering on the biggest stage. Watching his sub 2 hour marathon in 2019 was incredible.
Which races are on your to-do list?
Two which are on the bucket list are two of the big ones, London Marathon (I’ve never ran further than a half marathon so feels a little scary) and also the Great North Run.
What piece of running advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t think every run you do needs be fast and achieve a PB, training slow and steady is really important & also strength and conditioning is key.
What is your favourite post-race snack?
It 100% the RunThrough flapjack, they are amazing!
– Where is your favourite place to run?
It’ll have to be at Crewe Parkrun, it’s my home Parkrun and I’ve got great memories of the park as child. Highly recommend this Parkrun to anyone, tough little course but very friendly.
– What running shoes are you currently wearing?
I’ve always worn Asics running shoes, I’m currently running in the GT-2000 8 in Sunrise Red/Black.
What do you like most about the RunThrough kit?
For me it’s the fit and feel of RunThrough’s kit. The quality of the kit is brilliant I’m always recommending it to other runners.
What’s your favourite piece of RunThrough kit and why?
For me I absolutely love the On The Move purple men’s t-shirt, this is my go to top on club runs, also I highly recommend the On The Run men’s shorts; so much so, I’ve got two pairs.
What would you like to see in our RunThrough range this autumn/winter?
It would be great to have top base layer to wear underneath my kit, always been a fan of a grey top and black leggings. The On The Run men’s tights will be perfect. Also if possible a lighter version in weight of the In The Zone men’s shorts.
If you could introduce a new item to the RTKIT wardrobe (that we do not have on the site yet) what would it be?
A bit of a random one, it would be compression calf sleeves (without the sock), I do tend to wear these on longer runs and it would be great to swap mine for a RunThrough pair, ideally in grey and/or black to hide the mud stains.
Tell us a random running fact/quote?
If/when you’ve completed 282 Parkruns (this would be amazing I know) you’ll have actually ran the distance between Land’s End and John o’ Groats.
